CQ WW DX CONTEST SSB 2024

The Sun is cooperating, it was pleasure to run juicy pileups for hours from my home garden station.

I wanted to have the station ready at least on Thursday evening, but you know it… there are always tons of small things, which could be improved during the Friday. So less sleeping led to quite big physical crisis on Saturday noon. It took 2 hours, rates was low, but fortunately went away.

Low bands was also good, but why to be there, when high bands are widely opened, especialy 10m. So low bands of a bit less traffic. There was almost everything: various directions opened, long paths, but missing JA openings…

HW worked perfect. Only few minor issues. Unexpected interferences at the beginning, probably oxidized ANT switch contacts, went away after tens of minutes of high power load. Also TX monitor distortion inside TS-590SG, regardless TX monitor on or off. It was source of hearing fatigue, need to be solved.
Note about sound quality: a lot of signals with missing middle and high audio frequencies, just in deep bass. Bad for copying, I needed ask for repeating often.

In general: a lot of strong signals, but their quality is getting better recently, much less splatters compared to the past.
But with one exception from the east. I saw the big bright spot on my spectrum display. I found there 2 or 3 stations complained to width of the signal and splettered QRM. Operator’s long and loud choleric reaction proved, that these was not the first ones at all.
Mentioned signal was really of 10 kHz wide, in addition on 40m. The „black holes“ in the time of his RX was proving, that nobody else was able to work in this window… Try to calculate, how many such stations could be able to work inside the whole 40m EU SSB window. Just few. There are tons of SDRs over the world, so pile of evidences of at least non gentleman behaviour. Case for contest committee.

I beat my CQ WW DX SSB maximums (except mults number), I enjoyed the big pileups, often over 300 Q/h, quite good point averages, a few nice DXs. Satisfaction.

Thanks for participation, looking forward meet you in CW!
